Give Yourself a Completion Day
“Out of the strain of doing and into the peace of the done.” -- Julia Woodruff
Every so often, I give myself a gift of a
Completion Day. I list all of the little ‘to do’ tasks that keep accumulating
but never seem to get done. (It’s really my procrastination list.) I estimate
how long each of these small tasks could take. Then, on my designated Completion
Day, I do the shortest ones first and proceed through the rest. I feel such a
sense of accomplishment at the end of the day!
Those little tasks that remain undone drain energy from us. They sit in the back
of our minds nagging us. And with each reminder that a task needs doing, our
self esteem slips a notch.
I get a new lease on life when I clean up these obligations. It also inspires me
to use the same approach to meet my goals. I create a new list but this time, I
start with what is most important to me. If some tasks take many days, I break
them down into chunks that take only hours. This step-by-step approach continues
to inspire me with a sense of purpose and accomplishment.
I don’t believe that life is only about ‘to do’ lists. At the same time,
effectively using ‘to do’ lists really helps me get more out of life.
Would you benefit from a Completion Day? If so, book one now.
“Look at a day when you are supremely
satisfied at the end. It’s not a day when you lounge around doing nothing; it’s
when you’ve had everything to do, and you’ve done it.”
-- Margaret Thatcher
“High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation.”
-- Jack Kinder
