When I (Patrice) first read that quote, I laughed, delighted that someone could
be that carefree. That hasn’t been my style. I can’t play without a good reason!
How absurd this is, but do these thoughts hide deep in your subconscious as
well? What is your first reaction when you’re tempted with a promise of
pleasure?
For many of us, I suspect, the work ethic still rules supreme. It keeps our life
out of balance and our health at risk. There will always be lots of work to do.
I can’t wait for it to go away to enjoy myself. I’m learning to make recreation
a legitimate pastime and to book it into my calendar as easily as I book my
duties.
Today, we invite you to become aware of your attitude towards rest, relaxation,
pleasure and fun. When you give yourself a break, do you carry guilt through it?
Do you, deep down inside, believe that you don’t deserve to have a good time?
That you haven’t been performing well enough to earn a holiday? When I discover
these thoughts, I sweep them out into the trash.
Today, we hope you can choose to spend time doing something delightful,
something frivolous, something just for the sheer joy of it. No guilt allowed!
Joy is a quality of the soul!
“All animals, except man, know that the principal business of life is to
enjoy it.”
-- Samuel Butler
“If life doesn’t offer a game worth playing, then invent a new one.”
-- Anthony J. D’Angelo
“We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop
playing.”
-- George Bernard Shaw
