Healing the Past
“Problems do not go away. They must be
worked through or else they remain, forever a barrier to the growth and
development of the spirit.” -- M. Scott Peck
What is asking to be healed right now?
All of us carry wounds from the past. We may or may not be conscious of
them. Either way, they inhibit us from embracing more of life. If we want more
of life’s blessings, we need to heal our wounds – our repressed emotions and old
patterns and limiting beliefs.
Fortunately, we don’t need to go back into the past to do our healing. The
past reappears to us in the present.
If we are tense, angry, resentful or afraid, for example, it means unhappy
memories from the past are being triggered. We can heal the past by dealing
with our discomfort in this moment.
We heal and grow by moving into and through pain, not away from it. We grow by
embracing those qualities the personality wants to resist. Our aim is to embrace
both the ‘bad’ and the ‘good’ in wholeness. We do this by bringing love into the
situation and by using the power of imagination to re-image what we desire.
That’s how problems help us grow. Pain gets our attention. It’s our clue
to look inside to see what is out of alignment with our true nature.
The more you explore and release the irritation and suffering that naturally
arise each day, the more you will heal the past. Life will open up for you as
your personality thrives in this new atmosphere of awareness, acceptance and
love.

Benjamin Franklin
