Quadruple your learning by
stimulating the senses
“Ideas can come from anywhere and at any time. The problem with making mental notes is that the ink fades very rapidly. ”
~ Rolf Smith ~
Hi everyone,
Want to quadruple your memory? Handle the information you want to remember in different ways.
If we only hear or read information, within a day or two we typically recall
10% to 20% of what we heard or read.
If we write the information we've heard or read, we can double our recall from 20%
to 40% because we can now see it (or see it again). Writing is also kinaesthetic
so we absorb more through motion. And some of us sub-vocalize what we write, so we
hear the information again.
Also our minds work at about 1000 words per minute. When we write, the mind slows
down to about 100 words a minute. This allows thoughts to be recorded more deeply.
It also creates space for deeper and higher connective thoughts to emerge and allow
more integration.
Then if we review what we've written, we can double our memory again from 40% to
80% because we anchor the material from different perspectives at another time.
Finally, if we write a review of what we have previously written, we integrate the
material most completely.
What is important to you that you want to remember and integrate as a part of
your life?
Remember the three key steps to learning:
-
listen or read
-
write
-
review
Activate more of your senses more often.

“Writing brings a deeper level of learning, order, action and release than just oral communication. ”

“The more connections that can be made in the brain, the more integrated the experience is within memory.”
