Meditation -- a must for spiritual growth
"Meditation
brings wisdom; lack of mediation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you
forward and what holds you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom.”
~ Buddha ~
Meditation offers the most powerful way to connect to higher guidance. The term
"meditation" applies to many different practices with different intentions and
techniques.
At its most basic level, meditation enables us to become aware of how our minds
work. Sitting quietly, we focus our minds on something--our breathing or a
candle flame, for example. When we become aware that our attention has wandered
from our focus, we label "thinking" and return to our focus.
Over time, we discover that we have detached from the thoughts and emotions that
play out in our minds as we sit quietly. We become watchers that sit apart from
our own mental and emotional dramas. With this detachment, we gain the freedom
to choose whether or not to act on our thoughts. We learn to distinguish between
objective reality and our mental movies.
In the stillness of meditation practices, we progressively connect first with
the senses, then with more conceptual, abstract thinking processes, and then
more with love, compassion, intuition, spirit, soul or God, whatever we choose
to call the highest aspect of ourselves.
Meditation is considered an essential practice for those who seek self-knowledge
and self-mastery. With the pace of life today, we benefit greatly from its
calming and balancing influence.
If you have not yet tried meditation, experience its benefits by just taking a
few minutes each day to relax and still the mind by focusing on your breathing.
If you’d like to explore it more purposefully, we invite you to request our
introductory meditation program.
"Only in quiet waters things mirror themselves undistorted. Only in a
quiet mind is adequate perception of the world."
~ Hans
Margolius ~"Now imagine a hot tub for the mind. That is what
meditation is; it can bathe your mind in relaxing thoughts."
~ Eknath
Easwaran ~
