Losing Money … 7 Tips from Our Survival Strategy

“Every story can be told in different ways.”
-- Greek Proverb

Recently we paid a fair sum of money (significant for us) to a company for marketing. The bottom line? We completely lost our investment. Gulp! At first glance, this isn’t what we’d prefer to report. But things are not always as they appear.

In hind sight, we fell back into the ego trap of wanting more and seeking big pictures painted by others instead of ourselves. We gravitated towards technique and formulas and lost focus on the heart and soul of what matters most to us – inspiring growth in others.

Life is inviting us to go deeper. And as you may also lose something precious at some point in your life, we thought we’d share with you 7 tips from our ‘survival’ strategy.

Here it is in a nutshell:

  1. Don’t play the victim. We lose our power when we see ourselves as victims. It’s important to stay centered in our power. We ARE masters of our own lives.

  2. Let go of both labels and judgment. Our first reaction was “This is bad!” But this invites more negative reactions that push us into victim mode. We can choose to step out of right/wrong, good/bad or winner/loser judgments and refuse to blame anyone else or ourselves. Instead…

  3. Practice acceptance. We fully face that this happened. We don’t resist, avoid, or deny the reality of our experience. We do not give it energy. We do our best to stay objective.

  4. Take right action. If we can stay free of negative thoughts and emotions, it’s much easier to clearly see what we can constructively do around the situation. Whatever we do, we want to avoid any route that builds walls rather than bridges. We keep to the higher paths.

  5. Focus on and appreciate the abundance we DO have.

  6. Let go. We don’t waste time and energy in regret. We don’t let our memories hold us back from considering another venture in the future. We do our best to learn from the experience and move on.

  7. Look for the purpose of the experience, the bigger picture. From the perspective of consciousness, what are we being invited to learn? This gave us an opportunity to experience a new way of being around failure, loss of money and losing sight of our motives. As such, it was a gift.

Life is a lot less stressful and much more fun when we can embrace it as a game. Life moves on. We can turn our attention to what really matters rather than wallow in negativity around what didn’t work.

We’ve lost money… we gained experience... we’ve recommitted to our higher path. All is well.
